The Gila County DUI Task Force will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint from approximately 7:30 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, May 27.
The location of the detail is State Route 188 at milepost 251 by Roosevelt Lake. The purpose of the checkpoint is to identify and remove intoxicated drivers from the highways.
"The task force conducts a roadblock or checkpoint somewhere in Gila County every quarter," said Department of Public Safety Sgt. Rich Alvarez, who commands the task force.
Alvarez characterized last quarter's roadblock a success, netting a couple of drunk drivers out of 200 to 300 vehicles checked.
In addition to the checkpoint, roving patrols will also be working throughout the county over Memorial Day weekend.
Officers from the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Gila County Sheriff's Office will be on site for the May checkpoint. Globe and Payson Police Departments are also part of the task force when a checkpoint is conducted in either town. The next checkpoint will be in Payson sometime in July.
