Recently, while discussing affordable housing in the Payson area, I was astonished to learn about the wages paid by one of our (local ambulance services). Did you know that the people who take on the responsibility of caring for us in emergencies are making less than people who work in the fast food industry? EMTs in Payson make only $6.50/hr and the paramedics make only $10/hr. This is unbelievable to me. These people must be very dedicated because they sure aren't doing it for the money. They have trouble providing for their families and paying their bills on these wages.
Where is all the money going that they charge for ambulance trips? It is sure not going to pay people a respectable wage.
So, the next time you see one of the (local ambulance company) crews, thank them for their hard work.
