After a long battle with multiple sclerosis, Mary Lee Barr died Oct. 25, 2006, at age 50. She was born in Vivian, La., and had a degree in art from Louisiana College.
Ms. Barr moved to Payson in 1983 and was very active as a substitute teacher in the Payson School District. While in Payson, she attended church at Ponderosa Baptist and First Southern Baptist churches.
In 1989, her MS became too debilitating and she stayed at Payson Care Center for a short while, then moved to The Baptist Village Cook Care Center in Youngtown, Az.
Ms. Barr is survived by her son Steve, a senior at Arizona State University; mother and stepfather, Gladys and Bob Price; two younger brothers, John and Jim; and four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father Marvin Beaver.
A memorial was held on Friday, Nov. 3 at the Cook Care Chapel.
Per her request, Ms. Barr will be cremated and her ashes spread out in Flowing Springs, north of Payson.
