The Tonto National Forest will waive recreation fees across the forest on Veterans Day, Nov. 1, to honor Americans who have served in the armed forces.
All fees will be waived at forest day-use sites and campgrounds.
This includes swimming sites, picnic sites, fishing sites and boat ramps on the lower portions of the Salt and Verde Rivers and the chain of lakes on both rivers.
The waiver also applies to campgrounds including Tortilla Campground near Canyon Lake, Burnt Corral Campground on Apache Lake, and Cholla, Windy Hill, Fraizer, Schoolhouse and Indian Point campgrounds on Roosevelt Lake.
The waiver does not apply to group-use fees or fees charged by concession-operated facilities such as marinas on the lakes and campgrounds in the Payson area.
"We have joined with other federal land management agencies in waiving recreation fees to recognize the heroism and sacrifice of the members of the armed forces who defend our freedoms," Tonto Supervisor Gene Blankenbaker said.
The waiver also applies to fees associated with the new Tonto Pass program, which provides opportunities to purchase daily passes and watercraft stickers valid for forest recreation sites at more than 90 retail vendors across the State of Arizona.
For more information, or to order passes and stickers directly from the forest using credit cards and debit cards, call the Tonto National Forest Supervisor's Office at (602) 225-5200.
