Elks Host Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Once again, the good men and women of the Payson Elks Lodge are hosting the Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

This third annual event will be held on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 23, and is free and open to the public.

David Weissert, exalted ruler of Payson Elks Lodge 2154, left, and Bob Troutman, house manager of the lodge, prepare to serve Thanksgiving dinner for up to 700 people on Thursday, Nov. 23.

"Last year, we served about 500 dinners," said Bob Troutman, who manages the Elks Lodge at the corner of Beeline and Airport in Payson. "This year we'd like to have about 700 folks participate."

There will be three seatings this year: 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m., with doors opening at about 10:30 a.m. for the first seating.

Dinner music will be provided by DJ Craig Miller.

As in the past, dinners for the homebound will also be prepared and delivered. Today, Friday, is the deadline to request a homebound delivery.

Call the Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce at (928) 474-4515 to make a request for the holiday meal to be delivered.

The tickets for the dinner are free and are available at the Elks Lodge, the Payson and Pine libraries, the Payson and Pine senior citizens centers and the chamber of commerce office.

While the tickets are free, donations would be appreciated.

Volunteers are also needed to help with the dinner. There is a need for both serving and cleanup help at the following shifts: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 12:30 to 2 p.m. (cleanup).

A sit-down dinner for all volunteers will be held at 2 p.m.

To volunteer, call (928) 476-3678. For additional information, call Troutman at the Elks Lodge, (928) 474-2572.
