I am writing in regards to Mr. and Mrs. Wiebe's courageous endeavor to pull together Payson's first gay support organization. I believe Payson is long overdue for an organization like this and I would like to extend my gratitude and thanks.
As a former resident of Payson, I know how conservative the town can be and this is just the beginning to help bring Payson to be a more liberal and caring community toward those living an alternative lifestyle. Mr. Wiebe is correct when he comments that being gay isn't just about the sex. It's about a new emerging culture of men and women in society.
Although the acceptance of gays and lesbians is far from being a reality, PFLAG is an outstanding organization to improve upon acceptance.
I urge residents of Payson to do their part in supporting the Wiebes in their journey and have an open mind in acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals. Additional information about PFLAG can be found at www.pflag.org.
