Thankful For The Caring Atmosphere Of Tonto Village

The news from Tonto Village will be brief this week, I just returned home from the hospital in Payson after surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from my colon. I am on limited movement until next week when the staples will be removed from my abdomen.

Until then, there are so many people to thank for the many prayers and blessings that I have received. There are so many people to thank that it would take up my whole column, but you know who you are.

I feel so blessed to have such a close-knit family atmosphere in Tonto Village, with people who care to take that extra effort for one such as myself to help in any way they can.

I received such good care at Payson Regional Medical Center. All of the doctors and nurses are nothing but professionals and caring individuals. I thank you for the good care.

I owe my life to my fishing buddy, Theresa Meeker, for insisting on my getting a colonoscopy. If not for that, I would never have known that I had a cancerous tumor. Theresa is truly a caring friend.

Speaking of friends, Marge Hanscom passed away last week. Marge worked for the Payson Roundup for many years, and I was fortunate to know her. Marge always had a kind word and a funny story to tell me when I came into the Roundup office. Marge always had some project going for her home that she related to me in her own funny way. I will miss her.

Tonto Village Fire District

The election results are now final for the vacancy on the fire board. Rick Washburn was voted in by a large margin.

Rick will attend the next meeting of the fire board on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 6 p.m. at the fire station in Tonto Village. Congratulations to you, Rick. We all look forward to good progress for the next four years.

Chief Alliger reminds everyone who needs to clean up their properties or have a contractor remove any trees to get the Community Wild land Protection Plan paper from the office at the fire station.

There is no time limit on this, but all you need to do is to get a bid from a contractor, have the work done and submit the bill to the fire station. Chief Alliger will then submit that bill to the Protection Plan and you will receive half of your money returned to you. Call the station and Chief will have the paperwork ready for you to pick up. The number is (928) 478-4875.

Jeff Leonard of Tonto Village III, who works for the U.S. Forest Service, will celebrate his birthday on Nov. 28. Pam Furubotten of Tonto Village II will have her big day on Nov. 29. Happy birthday to you both.

Prayer and get well wishes to Pam. Pam has undergone knee replacement surgery last week and is now in rehab. We wish her a speedy recovery.

Pool results

This past Sunday afternoon, the eight-ball tournament got underway and Cliff Landrum came out on top. Joe Ferreira and Harvey Poyner shot for second and third places.

This past Tuesday evening, at the Double D, the gals took to the pool tables to play nine-ball. When the games were over, Patty Boeschling of Christopher Creek took top honors. Betty Koutz and Margaret Stasney shot for second and third places. The attendance of the Christopher Creek gals has dwindled down to just Patty. I am sure that there are some gals in Christopher Creek who could play nine-ball. Call Patty if you need more information.
