Take A Hike

Take a trip this weekend. The Escudilla Mountain hike in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest is a nice five-mile round trip that includes the summit of mountain and panoramic views. There are several camping spots along the way if you want to turn this into an overnight trip in the White Mountains. It's cold this time of year, so plan accordingly.

To get there from Springerville, drive south on US 191 for 25 miles. Take a left near mile marker 420, onto Forest Road 25. Drive 4.5 miles, take a left and watch for the Escudilla Wilderness sign on your left. A complete description of the hike and surrounding trails is in "50 Hikes in Arizona."
