Phyllis and David Engleman will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary today, Friday, Oct. 6, 2006.
They met during the Korean War at Selfridge Air Force Base Michigan in May 1951. David was stationed at the AACS (Airways and Airport Communications Service) detachment at Selfridge when Phyllis was called to active duty from the AF Reserves in Duluth, Minn.
She was assigned to Selfridge AFB as an airport control tower operator on temporary duty. David, needing a secretary, and noticing the office experience in her files, had orders cut to keep her at Selfridge as his secretary.
They were married in October 1951. The rest is history.
They have four children and seven grandchildren.
