John Meredith Parry, 71, of Payson, died Oct. 4, 2006. He was born Dec. 5, 1934 in Sherman Co. Neb.
Mr. Parry was raised in Long Beach, Calif. and attended Long Beach schools.
He served in the U.S. Army from October 1954 to October 1956 in Panama. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 69, Payson, Ariz.
He went to work for California Youth Authority in 1962, first as group supervisor, then youth counselor, finally as senior youth counselor. For 27 years, he made a difference in many young lives. He retired in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Lilli; sister, Susan Schroeder of California and New Orleans; daughter, Robin of California; sons, Matthew of Las Vegas, Nev. and Christopher of Ventura, Calif.; stepsons, Matt A. Matthews of West Virginia and Michael W. Matthews of Star Valley.
Mr. Parry was preceded in death by his parents, Harold M. and Evelyne Parry; and one nephew and one niece.
The family invites all friends and neighbors to a reception and day of memories from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at 204 W. Saddle Lane, Payson.
A memorial is planned in California at a later date.
