Payson Area Habitat for Humanity (PAHH), with sponsorship by Mazatzal Casino, is undertaking a new venture this fall -- the Rim Country Challenge -- a half marathon race. The course, commencing at the casino parking lot, will wind around Payson streets with the "challenge" of the hill leading up to the Payson Airport showcasing some beautiful areas of our town which casual tourists (and perhaps some of our residents) seldom, if ever, see.

Applications for the Saturday, Oct. 28 race are available at Payson Athletic Club, Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce -- both the Payson and Pine offices, Payson Parks & Recreation Office at Green Valley Lakes, Payson Library and at the PAHH office located at 1013 S Goodfellow Rd. (Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9 - noon).

In addition to the sanctioned and certified Half Marathon course (13.1 miles), a 5K (3.1 miles) race and a Young Athletes' Fun Run will be offered on the same day. Registration fees are: Half Marathon $40; 5K is $20 and the Fun Run is $10 through Sunday Oct. 22.

Fees then increase to: $50, $30 and $15, including day of registration.

Further race details are available on the Web site www.rimcountrychallenge.com and an application may be completed there. Information can also be obtained by e-mailing the PAHH office at pahh@cybertrails.com or by phoning the PAHH office at (928) 474-0330.
