Riding the Rim is not an experience restricted to the summer, in fact, because of fire dangers, visitors and residents have a better chance to trail ride in the fall.

The facility is about 15 miles east of Payson on East Highway 260.

Trail rides can be one, two or three hours, and if the conditions are right, half-day rides are also available.

The stable has 15 horses, but the number varies because the owner also operates trail rides at Picacho Peak.

Rides leave every hour from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and up to 10 participants, six and older, can be accommodated. The cost for rides is $30 per hour, plus tax, per person.

The stables will provide rides for children under six in the stable area only. For more information, call Kohl's Ranch Stables at (928) 478-0030. To arrange an afternoon ride, call in the morning, for morning rides, call the afternoon before.

If seeing a little more territory is your interest, get in touch with the people at Payson Adventures or CAVU Aviation for outback or air tours.

An adventure in storytelling and information about the area is part of each tour. Reservations need to be made a week in advance. For more information call Payson Adventures at (928) 468-0064.

Get a bird's eye view of the Rim Country with CAVU Aviation. The sightseeing tours range from 30 minutes for $45 per person to 60 minutes for $90 per person.
