Editor:

It is imperative that we retain Don Crowley as our representative on the Gila County College Board of Governors.

Don has spent endless hours in the past few years educating himself on everything to do with the college, including curriculum, funding, how the funds are distributed, and administration. He has been at most of the GCC Board meetings even before becoming a board member, often speaking out on behalf of Northern Gila County residents.

Don, along with other community leaders, spoke before the Arizona Legislature on more than one occasion making a case to continue in greater control of our own college destiny as voters approved in 2002.

Recently, with the support of APS and the Town of Payson's Focus Future program, Don and Dr. Peter Kettner, former chairman of the Gila Community College Board, recruited support from many Payson leaders in forming the Northern Gila County Higher Education Needs Assessment (HENA). Members of this organization will interact with the Payson High School, Payson Regional Medical Center, Payson Regional Economic Development and other areas of our community, including the citizens. Then we will know exactly what the community needs and wants from our college and go forward from there.

Don Crowley is especially qualified to continue as our representative on the Gila County College Board of Governors. With his background in investing and public relations, he has been, and will continue to be, the voice of northern Gila County on the Gila County College Board of Governors in a positive, knowledgeable and respectful way. Please join us in voting for Don Crowley on Nov. 7.

Judy and Jim Buettner, Payson
