Just before 8 a.m. Tuesday, homes and businesses across Payson lost power when there was a trip on the 69 kv (kilovolt) line.
Arizona Public Service Company (APS) substations in town were out for about five minutes and the Mazatzal substation was out for about seven minutes.
"We do not know what caused it. That is under investigation (at press time)," said Jan Parsons, Arizona Public Service manager of customer service for Gila-Navajo.
The power failure was probably not caused by a bird or animal, she said.
The 69 line comes in from Preacher Canyon and runs from substation to substation.
The outage was widespread affecting homes as businesses as far away as Camp Verde.
