Charles W. Sylvester, 79, died Aug. 28, 2006, in Payson. He was born on a farm near Cynthiana, Ohio on Nov. 25, 1926 to Ray and Iva Sylvester.
He served in the Navy from 1944-1946 during World War II. In 1951, he joined the Air Force and served during the Korean era and in Vietnam. He retired from the Air Force in 1970 and went to work as a security officer for Garret, an aircraft company in Phoenix, retiring again in 1989.
He was a life member of American Legion Post, 40+8, In-Country Vietnam Vets, Air Force Sergeants Association, Security Police Association, NRA, the Elks, Moose Lodge and Eagles.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary; three nephews, Roger Carroll, Randy Carroll, Billy Ray Sylvester; niece, Judy Steiner; stepson, Edward Brewer; granddaughter, Menda Brewer; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Brewer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; sister, Catherine Carroll; and nephews, Gary Carroll and Clifford Sylvester.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30 at the American Legion Post 69, 709 E. Highway 260, Payson.
