Mount Cross hosts contemporary concert

An event for the whole community is being sponsored by Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 601 E. Highway 260 (between Safeway and Giant) in Payson.

Captive Free, a musical ministry team of six young men and women from the Minneapolis/St. Paul-based Youth Encounter, will present an inspiring concert of contemporary Christian music, puppetry, drama and personal testimony at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. The concert will take place in the church sanctuary.

There is no admission charge for the concert, however a free-will offering will be taken up for the support of the team and its ministry. This faith-encouraging program offers something for all ages, so bring the family, grab a friend, and join in the fun.

Bible study planned

A Biblical Covenants Study will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. starting Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Crossroads Church at 114 E. Cedar Lane.

This will be an in-depth study of the following Biblical Covenants: Edenic, Adamic, Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic, Land, Davidic, The New Covenant, and The Everlasting Covenant.

To preregister, call Tom R. Huffman at (928) 472-7462, or the church at (928) 474-2602.

Speaker to address holistic medicine

Dr. William Tiller, Professor Emeritus Stanford University, and a Payson resident, will be speaking at 11 a.m. this Sunday, Sept. 24 at the Payson Center for Spiritual Awareness, 107 W. Wade Lane.

He has been an associate editor for the Journal of Holistic Medicine in the field of psychoenergetics, published three books and more than 250 professional papers on solid state physics and was a participant in the movie "What the Bleep."

All are welcome. Come early for a good seat.

Singers sought for Christmas cantata

The Payson Christian Ministerial Fellowship is looking for choir members to sing parts for eight of the 12 songs from "Praise to the King -- A Christmas Worship Cantata" that will be part of this year's Christmas program. The program will be at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Payson High School auditorium.

The multi-church choir needs singers to come to rehearsals at 7 p.m. each Tuesday at the Payson Christian Church Fellowship Hall, from now until the performance so that the songs can be mastered. Rehearsals started earlier this month, but those interested are still welcome to participate.

The church is located at 501 E. Rancho Road, across from Payson Elementary School, and the fellowship hall is behind the worship center.

Under the direction of Kathy Kaufman, singers will gain more control of their voice as well as learn the exciting new songs all composed and arranged by Ken Curl, the pastor at Payson Christian Church. Kaufman is the vocal instructor at Julia Randall Elementary School.

An 80-page libretto is loaned to each participant as well as an audio CD so that parts can be practiced at home, or listened to just to become very familiar with the part and flow of each piece.

For the performance, some of the songs will use the accompaniment heard on the CD with full orchestra, while others (half or more) will have a live contemporary worship band.

Anyone interested in singing soprano, alto, tenor or bass is encouraged to call Payson Christian Church at (928) 474-3138 to talk to Pastor Ken Curl and/or leave a message with your name and phone number so that Kaufman will know you plan to be there on Tuesdays.

Watch for more information still coming on the Christmas program itself.
