'Payson Idol' Contest To Raise Money For Scholarships

The annual Dollars for Scholars program of the Payson Rotary Club is this weekend. The theme is a "Payson Idol Party," which will feature a karaoke contest by area residents.

The event is from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23 at the Tonto Apache Recreation Center gym.

Tickets are $100 per couple and may be obtained from any Rotary member.

Tickets include drinks and appetizers and a chance to win many door prizes, including a $5,000 cash grand prize and smaller cash awards. Other raffle items include a gun, an amethyst ring and a Carnival cruise. There will also be live and silent auctions during the evening.

The entry fee for the karaoke contest is $50 and the winner will receive a $250 prize.

The money raised from the event funds scholarships for students, awards to teachers presented at an annual appreciation barbecue, grants for school beautification and Rim Country Literacy Program, youth organizations, donations of dictionaries and books to school children and leadership training for students.
