Fall is definitely in the air. Some are warming their homes in the morning with a little fire and it smells wonderful.
Pine Library Friends invite you to meet children's author, Sari, as she reads from her book, "Marcy in Manhattan" from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23. Children, ages 3 through 9, are invited to this reading. Wannabe authors are welcome to meet Sari and ask questions about getting published.
Pine Library Friends will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 25 in the library activities building. This is the end of the year for the organization and new officers will be elected and installed. Several members will give short reports on new books in the library. Many thanks to the outgoing president, Barbara Grillo, and the board.
Benefit Poker Run
The Motorcycle/Quad Poker Run, benefiting the Justice McNeeley Foundation, will be Saturday, Sept. 30. Participants in the Motorcycle Poker Run will check in at 9 a.m. at Nifty 50s. Quad Poker Run participants will meet at 10 a.m. at Sidewinders Saloon. Each run is a $10 per hand donation. Prizes will be awarded beginning at 3 p.m. at Sidewinders.
The Family Fun Fall Festival, sponsored by the Pine Strawberry Business Community, will be Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 7 and 8, at the Pine Community Center. The fun will include pumpkin carving, apple passing, skillet throwing, grease pole climbing, a bake-off, a pumpkin patch, live music and more. There will be children's games and contests and a petting zoo. A pancake breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 10 a.m.
The Festival Prince and Princess will be crowned at 2 p.m. Saturday. Children from 5 to 8 years of age are eligible and application packets are available at local businesses displaying the Family Fun Fall Festival flier. The scarecrow costume contest is open to all ages. Judging categories will include kids, teens, adults, family and group.
Bring your favorite baked pumpkin or apple recipe for judging. Judging will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday and the winner will be announced at 3 p.m. Call Karen Blake at (928) 476-3658 for more information.
Space is available for the flea market being held in conjunction with the Fall Festival. Space is $20 for both Saturday and Sunday and you keep the proceeds. Call Sandy Human at (928) 476-2406 with questions or to arrange for a space.

Rimside Grill's third annual Oktoberfest in the Pines will be from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7. Enjoy fun games, food and music all day long.
Just in time for Christmas, the Pine Library is raffling off a remote-controlled fire truck. Tickets are $1 each or six for $5, and are available at the library. Stop by to see this terrific truck. The drawing will be Saturday, Dec. 7.
October Children's Movie Madness has two great features planned. Wednesday, Oct. 4 will be Walt Disney's "The Wild." Another Disney film, "Brother Bear 2," will be shown Wednesday, Oct. 11. Both movies will be shown at 11 a.m. Children should bring a pillow but refreshments will be provided by the library.
Pre-school Story Time begins at the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Library at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18 for children 2 to 5 years of age. Call the library at (928) 476-3678.
