With summer officially behind us, it's time to embrace fall. While it's still warm enough for a T-shirt in Payson, this time of year makes you want to throw on another layer and enjoy the brisk chill of the changing season.
To experience fall right now, head north to Flagstaff. Take 1-17 into town, then Highway 40 east to exit 201. Take left off the exit ramp, cross the bridge and take a right onto Highway 89. Watch for the parking area for Mt. Elden on your right.
This is an easy but long loop hike at 13 miles if you choose to follow the entire thing from beginning to end.
The reward on this hike is the sweeping views of changing fall foliage. The trail is well-marked and popular, making it a perfect trip for the novice hiker.
