Driver Won't Face Felony Charges In Fatal Accident


A 74-year-old woman will not face felony charges following a July 27 crash that killed one man and injured another woman.

The Payson Police Department forwarded the case to the county attorney's office, and it was returned to them, stating no charges were going to be filed.

According to police reports, 58-year-old Charles William Walters of Pine was killed after a southbound van, driven by Evelyn Nadine Yeager crossed over the centerline and struck Walters' yellow Chevy Tracker, which was parked on the northbound side of the highway.

Walters' wife, 54-year-old Janis Devlin Walters, was airlifted to Scottsdale Osborn Healthcare with serious injuries.

Payson Police Commander Don Engler said the PPD will follow-up with an investigation to determine if any civil traffic violations are applicable.

County Attorney Daisy Flores said she could not release any information on the matter.
