September has flown by and hardly has given the residents time to can the abundance of fruit that we were blessed with this year.
The weather has turned again to warmer days, so the apples are falling at a very rapid rate. I just finished canning pears, so now I need to start all over again with the apples. I have decided to make apple butter and chunky applesauce. Guess what my kids and grandkids will be getting for Christmas this year?
The bull elk are making their peculiar noises again, calling to the cows. The bulls are now in their rutting season. It is best to give them a wide berth at this time, unless you happen to be a lucky recipient of an elk tag.
Tarantulas have also been seen in the village. They are most likely looking for a safe and warm place to snuggle into for the winter. The spider may look very dangerous, but in reality, they are shy and would rather be left alone. However, if they become very frightened they can spray out little spines. Parents of small children should tell their children to let the tarantula go on its merry way. Mitzi Brabb is our resident wildlife rehab person in Tonto Village.
