Golfers Perform Well Despite Cold


The Payson Men's Golf Association took to the course for its second week of golf for the season.

Thirty-five golfers battled blasting wind and cold temperatures Wednesday in the low net affair at the Payson Golf Course.

In the first flight, Larry Baker recorded the best round, scoring a 67. Gary Campbell's 68 was good enough for second place and John Waring and Larry Smith both scored a 69.

In the second flight, Don Kisseberth took first-place honors with a 61. Gary Vaplon scored a 63 and Herb Sherman and Jerry McGuire both scored 66.

The third-flight bests, Doug Bailey and Don Nicholas, recorded a 64. Richard Jones tallied a 65 and Al Lyons scored a 67.

Ken Althoff captured prize money for closest to the pin on No. 5 with a lie of 5 feet, 2 inches.

Larry Baker took the honors on No. 8 with a shot that landed 11 feet, 3 inches from the pin.

Waring had a successful day of golf, also pocketing prize money for his 12 foot, 6 inch lie on No. 14.

Campbell bested the closest to the pin winners with a lie of 4 feet, 10 inches on No. 17 in addition to his first-flight, second best round of golf for the day.
