The Lady Longhorns gouged the Cowboys of Camp Verde in a 6-5 win Friday. With several varsity players away visiting colleges, the younger players stepped up, including solid performances from Beth Hoyt, who went 1-for-3, and Sky McNeeley, who went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, coach Will Dunman said. He added that he was proud of the team's effort and the leadership displayed by the upperclassmen players.
"We played as a team and did the basics well," Dunman said. "We found a way to win. From a coach's standpoint, it's exciting to see."
Up next for the Lady Horns is a game against Holbrook at 4 p.m. Wednesday at PHS.
