According to Rick Washburn, the new chairman of the Tonto Village Fire District, "The Tonto Village Fire District is in the process of entering into a six-month Inter-Governmental-Agreement with the Diamond Star Fire District to provide for chief services, administration and training. The purpose of this agreement is to assist the Tonto Village Fire District in restructuring and reorganizing the District to provide a better level of service to its citizens. Diamond Star Fire District will provide chief services and administration, including bookkeeping for Tonto Village Fire District during this period, as well as provide three trainings for district personnel each month, with certified instructors.
Diamond Star will also work with the Tonto Village Fire Board in developing a five-year plan for the fire district. Diamond Star is not "taking over" the Tonto Village Fire District. The TVFD board will remain intact.
We are currently identifying obsolete equipment and apparatus, which can be removed and significantly reduce the district's insurance costs.
At the same time, we are looking to acquire new apparatus, which will better meet the needs of our district. The Tonto Village Fire Board is currently in budget planning for fiscal year 2007-2008, and anyone interested is encouraged to attend our board meetings.
There will be a "Meet the Chief" meeting for all TVFD volunteers on Monday, April 9, at 6:30 p.m. at the Tonto Village Fire House, 151 Mathews Lane. All past and present volunteers are encouraged to attend.
The next TVFD Board meeting is on Wednesday, April 11, at 6 p.m. at the same location.
All homeowners and especially Homeowner's Association board presidents should be attending the meetings to know what is really going on.
There is a Web site that is up and running for the fire district. It is www.tontovillagefire.org. E-mail addresses for all the board members are also on the site. If you have information that is pertinent to the district, you can also use this site.
Important burn notice
There are new rules for burning in your yard or anywhere in the Tonto National Forest. If a homeowner wishes to burn needles, tree branches or other debris, they must obtain a burn permit from the Tonto Village Fire Department. They also need to contact the Forest Service with information about the burn, including date and time. Contact Kevin Martin at the fire station at (928) 478-4875. The local forest station number is (928) 474-7900. The consequences of not getting a permit could be costly to the starter of the fire if the Hotshot Crew has to be called in to put out the fire. The person would be held legally responsible for the cost. Since we live in the forest, we must all abide by these rules for everyone's safety.
Notice to all residents: There should not be any dumping of brush in the "island" in Tonto Village. If you have brush, please haul it to the Blattner burn pit area on Saturdays.
The Auxiliary to the Tonto Village Fire District is currently working toward preparations for the Memorial Weekend Breakfast. The breakfast will be held on May 26 at the Tonto Village Chapel beginning at 7:30 a.m. until about 10:30 a.m. or until the food is gone. Chorizo burritos will again be available for $2. Also at that time, raffle tickets will be available for sale for the denim rag quilt, made by the auxiliary, and a wild animal footprint quilt made and donated by Vicki Grootegoed.
Eileen Kittock is adding another candle to her birthday cake on April 7. Eileen hails from Christopher Creek, but is a regular Domino Diva player in Tonto Village. Happy birthday to you, Eileen. We all wish you many, many more in the years to come.
John and Linda Digman of Tonto Village I wishes to announce the wedding of their daughter, Trina Silvey Digman, to J.C. Burdick, both of Payson, on April 9 at 4 p.m. at the Jehovah's Witness church on 1616 N. McLane Road in Payson. A small reception will held following the ceremony at the bride and groom's future home. April 9 was chosen as their wedding day because that is the date they met. John and Linda and friends wish Trina and J.C. the best of luck.
Congratulations and wish them a long and happy marriage.
Get well wishes to Linda Digman. Linda has suffered a severe bout of asthma that has temporarily landed her in the hospital for treatment. It looks like Linda will have to hurry up and get well quickly for her daughter's wedding. We all wish you well, Linda.
I want to wish all the readers of this column a very happy and holy Easter. Enjoy your families and your friends with good food and conversation.
Don't eat too many Easter eggs or chocolate bunnies.
