Senior Center, Library Have Active April

Although I am writing this column early this week and things can change, presently the weather is so beautiful. The forsythia and grape hyacinths are really colorful and the fruit trees are in bloom. This is a wonderful place to live.

The Fiddlers Jam will be performing at 1 p.m. in the Cultural Hall at the Pine Community Center on Wednesday, April 18. Come and join in or just sit back and listen. These are volunteers who come the third Wednesday of every month with great entertainment. There is no charge.

There are lots of activities of interest at the Senior Center in the Pine Community Center. Lunch is served every day in the Senior Dining Room. Become a member and you can eat for $3.50, including a great salad bar. Nonmembers pay $5. There is a menu and sign-up sheet on the desk in the dining room or you can call (928) 476-2151. After lunch each day, you can stay for cards. Monday and Friday is poker, Tuesday -- canasta, Wednesday -- pinochle and Thursday is open for suggestions. Anyone interested in dominos? Or you can play a game of pool.

Meals on Wheels are available through the Senior Dining Room. Great meals can be delivered to your door five days a week between 11 a.m. and noon. This service is available throughout Pine and Strawberry. The charge is $4 and this includes a salad. You can sign up for a day, a week or a month in advance. You can pay in advance or pay when your meal arrives, either with cash or check. It couldn't be any easier than that. You do need to sign up 24 hours in advance to be included, though. Call (928) 476-2151.

A volunteer opportunity is available at the Senior Thrift Store. Sorters are needed on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. What fun to be able to see all the interesting stuff before it goes up for sale. Call Bruce or Judy at (928) 476-4633 or stop by.

On special this week at the Senior Thrift Store in Pine are lamps and small appliances. Don't miss out on this one.

AA meets every Sunday at the Senior Dining Room at the new time of 5 p.m.

Clifford's Spring Fling is at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 28 at the Pine library activity building at the rear of the Pine Community Center. Children ages 2 through 10 are invited to meet Clifford, hear stories, play games and win prizes.

New hours at the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Library starting May 1 are: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The new selection for One Book AZ is "Going Back to Bisbee" by Richard Shelton. Books are available at the library and the discussion will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 9 in the library.

The Pine library is in need of volunteers to work three to four hours per week. This is a fun place and volunteers are greatly appreciated. Stop by. You will love it.

April 15 through April 21 is Volunteer Appreciation Week. All volunteers who give their time helping out in any of our community activities and organizations deserve a huge thank you during that week and every week. But also, this is a great time to volunteer. There are lots of organizations that would appreciate your help.

Happy Spring.
