Star Valley Launches Sales Tax Audits

The Town of Star Valley has received sales tax reports from the state of Arizona and there is a disparity between the results and the number of physical and licensed businesses in town.

Town Manager Vito Tedeschi said not every business has been properly paying their taxes to the state, so the town doesn't know how much revenue it has from sales tax.

The town collects a 2 percent sales tax from each business. The revenue goes into the town's general fund for town expenses, town clerk Sarah Luckie said.

"It's important to us that we collect all revenues due us, before discussing the raising of fees or taxes," Tedeschi said.

Currently, this fiscal year, the town has collected more than $315,000 from sales tax.
