A Few Thoughts About Payson's Current Situation

Editor:

I have wanted to write several times and now I feel like I must respond.

First, Mayor Edwards, you are doing a great job. I'm glad I voted for you.

Second, regarding illegal immigrants, what are we afraid of? I love God. I love my fellow men. If you are legal and don't speak English, I love you. If you are illegal, I would love for you to do whatever you need to do to get legal and then I would love for you to be my neighbor. I love my local church. Our minister teaches love and respect for each other and the law.

Third, get back Payson's old values. I retired in 2004. I moved to Payson and my husband and I bought a house. I shop at Wal-Mart, Bashas' and Safeway. I buy my clothes at Stage and other local stores. We buy our gas at Maverik. We bought a 2005 Dodge from Chapman Auto. We pay local taxes and mortgage taxes every year.

I know all my neighbors. We wave, talk to each other, have barbecues and watch each others' animals and houses when we take vacations.

One letter writer said we need to get back to the old values. Mine have never left. I was taught manners and respect and love of God and man since I was born.

I consider myself, my husband and my neighbors to be people of Payson. I don't have to wait 20 years.

Mary Jordan, Payson
