With the slogan "The Helpful Place" when someone is named Ace Employee of the Year, you know they are the kind of person that really goes the distance for customers and fellow employees.
Kristie Pedler was named the Payson Ace Employee of the Year for 2006 at the company's annual party in February. She shared the honor in 2001, as well. She has been with the store since May 1999.
"We have an employee of the month chosen by the employees and management," Pedler said. "I won it twice. Then at the end of the year, the employees vote on who should be Employee of the Year."
People at the store are still teasing Pedler, who is known as a talker. When she was presented the award, she was speechless.
Pedler can be found in any department at the Payson Ace. She works as a cashier, does customer service, can cut keys, and help in the paint section. She is familiar with most aspects of the store's inventory, so is often the "Go To Girl" when there's a question.
"But when I first started, I didn't know the difference between screwdrivers," she said. The training she received was very thorough and it is ongoing. "I learn something new every day," Pedler said.
She said her favorite area of work is putting together the seasonal changes for the store. Pedler set up the Christmas display and then took it down to get the lawn and garden area ready for shoppers.
"The best part of the job are the people I work with," she said. "They are what keeps me coming back. And I love the owners, John and Claudette Patricia."
Pedler said she wanted to thank everyone who voted for her as Ace Employee of the Year.
