The big, red dog that many children have come to love through books will visit the Isabelle Hunt Memorial Library activity center in Pine from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday. Children, ages 3 to 10, are invited to meet Clifford, do the hokey-pokey, listen to a story and play animal bingo.
"Come snack on my dog-bone cookies," Clifford said. "They are only shaped like dog bones, so I think you will find the cookies really tasty."
Clifford will give out DVDs, books and autographed pictures. Parents can sign their children up at the Pine library or call (928) 476-3678 to register.
Children, large and small, can celebrate Cinco de Mayo, May 5, at the Payson Public Library.
"We have prizes and hats (like the one three-year-old Brittlee Harper is wearing in this photo) to give away," said children's event coordinator Harryette Stanley.
At 1p.m., events for 3 to 5 year olds will include storytime in Spanish, the Mexican Hat Dance and a piñata.
At 1:45 p.m., children ages 6 to 11 will do the Macarena, play a game and try to smash a piñata.
Teens from 12 to 18 will learn to Salsa and get their crack at a piñata at 2:30 p.m.
Reservations can be made in person at the library or by calling (928) 474-9260.
Bite-sized tacos and burritos will be served.
"Families are welcome to come and watch, but please RSVP by May 1 so we know how much finger food to have," Stanley said.
