Police Chase Stolen Vehicle, Arrest Homicide Suspect

At approximately 6:53 p.m. Monday, April 30, the Payson Police Department received information that a stolen vehicle was headed toward Payson on Highway 87 from the Flagstaff area.

It was also reported that the driver was possibly a homicide suspect. Officers received updated information over the next 30 to 40 minutes, and the vehicle was eventually seen southbound from Pine toward Payson.

Three Payson Police Department vehicles were stationed on Highway 87 north of Payson when officers spotted the stolen vehicle and began pursuit.

When they tried to pull the vehicle over, the driver did not stop, but continued southbound, approaching town limits.

Two Payson Police officers utilized road spikes to attempt to disable the vehicle. The vehicle was ultimately disabled and stopped in the vicinity of the 900 block of North Highway 87.

The driver, Randall Lewis, 24, of Phoenix, was taken into custody without incident. Charges are pending in Gila County for possession of stolen property and unlawful flight from a pursuing law enforcement vehicle. Additional charges are pending in the Flagstaff area.
