The Spring Fling at Julia Randall Elementary School enters its fourth year and Parent Teacher Organization leader, Susi Carr, would like to invite the community to the family-oriented event.
The fun, food and games run from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday.
"It is just like an old-fashioned carnival," she said.
Game tickets are sold four for $1 and the games have little prizes such as fun pencils, erasers and little toys.
Children can roll a ping-pong ball down the Star Gazer board into one of many holes.
There is a Bake Walk, which is like a Cake Walk, only with a variety of tasty homemade goodies, not just cakes.
A clown will paint faces.
Those with high hoop dreams can try their luck at the Basketball Shoot or bounce on the Moon Walk.
The lanky man dressed as a Western sheriff is teacher Wayne Gorry.
Adults and children alike should be aware that he jails the unsuspecting behind a fenced area and charges tickets to get out.
"Staff, teachers and parents come together to make the Spring Fling a success," Carr said. "Everyone pitches in, even though it is the end of the year and we are all exhausted. That makes it special."
In addition to the host of games, high school students from Future Farmers of America will bring animals for a petting zoo.
The Payson Police Department will be on hand to do fingerprinting.
Principal Robert Varner will join the JRE tradition of good sports by sitting on the hot seat, or, in this case, the cold, wet seat of the dunk tank.
Parents were generous and students have been responsible bringing in items for the silent auction gift baskets.
Kindergartners brought toys and games and first-graders brought in stuff for making scrapbooks.
"Last year, Pioneer Title donated Diamondback baseball tickets and Angela Lyons donated a weekend at a condo in Mexico to help raise money," Carr said.
There will be good stuff this year also.
Music at the Spring Fling will be provided by the JRE chorus.
There will be soda and water to drink. Indian Fry Bread and hot dogs can be purchased for dinner, plus chips, popcorn and cotton candy.
