Volunteers Make Pine Blood Drive Successful

There is a new display at the Pine Museum titled "Arizona in the Great Depression," This is a photographic exhibit. Do stop by and take a look.

And while you are at the museum, check out the wonderful new opportunity quilt which is on display. Buy raffle tickets at the museum for a drawing later this year. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Come and see this new exhibit and enjoy wandering through this great little museum.

These volunteers register blood donors as they come in and serve refreshing snacks to them afterwards. From left are Lou Chebowski, Fran Oestmann, Billie Joe Lucas, Sheri Earp and Colleen MacLeod. D.J. Craig provided relaxing background music. Many local businesses provided the refreshments and the First Baptist Church donated the space.

There will be another water meeting at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Pine Community Center. The last meeting got bogged down with petition signing. This meeting should provide some helpful information and allow you to ask questions. Some have had some very major water hauling charges on their water bill. This subject will be addressed.

A very important meeting of the Arizona Corporation Commission regarding our water problems will be held in Phoenix on Monday, August 6, at 10 a.m. The meeting will be at 1300 West Washington, on the first floor. The phone number there is (602) 542-3026. At the meeting on Sunday, there will be an attempt to arrange carpools. If you have a large car or want to ride with someone else, do attend this meeting.

The preschool reading program at the Pine Library continues at 10:15 each Wednesday. Bring the little ones for some fun storytelling.

Another blood drive was held this past week in Pine. Thanks to all those who stepped up and donated that life-giving blood. The blood drive also depends on terrific volunteers who help in so many ways. Many of these volunteers help because they, for a variety of reasons, cannot give blood and they want to do their part.

Others both volunteer and give blood. D.J. Craig was once again on hand to provide his wonderful assortment of music.

Sheri Earp works very hard coordinating this drive and bringing in the donors. Volunteers include Lou Chebowski, Fran Oestmann, Billie Joe Lucas, Colleen MacLeod, Ron Calderon and Nancy Burns. Thanks to community supporters and contributors, including the First Baptist Church, Dianne Mitchell, Katie Calderon, Dale Oestmann, Pine Bakery, Uncle Toms, Pine Deli and Safeway.

The menu for the Senior Dining Room for this coming week is: Monday -- Enchiladas, rice and beans, Tuesday -- Roast turkey, stuffing and vegetable, Wednesday -- Corned beef and cabbage, cheese biscuits, Thursday -- Chicken fried steak, potatoes with gravy and vegetable, Friday -- Fish, sweet potato and corn on the cob. Salad bar and beverage are included. Just the salad bar is $3.00. Full meal is $5.00. Please call a day ahead for reservations -- 928-476-2151.

If you have an activity planned which would be of interest to residents and visitors of Pine and Strawberry, please let me know. I would like to write about it. Thank you.
