Ronald Richardson Reed died Aug. 4, 2007 after enduring many years of failing health.
Known by his many friends and associates as Ron, he and his wife of 43 years, Carol, came to Payson and opened the Payson Candle Factory in 1979.
He was born July 26, 1938 in Melrose, Mass., to Kenneth Bruce and Dorothy Richardson Reed.
After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Reed attended Burdette College in Boston, studying business.
He was a retired officer of Zayre Corporation, prior to coming to Payson.
Mr. Reed served as president of the board of directors for the Payson Chamber of Commerce and was on several town committees, including the planning and zoning commission.
He spearheaded the first Christmas lighting program for the Swiss Village Shops, a tradition that has since become an annual event to start the holiday season in Payson.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Whidbey Island, Wash. and a member of the Elks Lodge BPOE 2154 of Payson.
He is survived by his wife, Carol; his son, Brian of Sigourney, Iowa, and daughter, Brendalyn of Payson. Also surviving are grandchildren Crystal Stevens, Rocky Beery, Heidi and Shane Reed, A.J. and Cierra Rose, as well as great-grandchildren Lacy, Lara, Levi, Nevaeh and Ryleigh.
Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Scott Reed.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 13 at the Masonic Lodge of Payson, followed by a military graveside service at Mountain Meadows Memorial Park.
