Tom Burns, Rotary's District Governor, will be visiting the Payson Rotary Club Wednesday.
The group's new district governor is a retired presiding administrative law judge for Arizona. He has been a member of the Chandler Rotary Club for 28 years and has 27 years of perfect attendance with the club. He was president of the Chandler club in 1982-83.
Rotary's Celeste Parsons received the Rotarian of the Year Award this past week.
The Rotarian of the Year Award is an annual award that is presented to a member of Payson Rotary Club who has shown outstanding leadership in the community and who has exemplified Service Above Self. Celeste Parsons was given this prestigious recognition for her dedication, loyalty and contributions to the community.
She has been a member of the club, with perfect attendance since 1998. This past year she held two positions on the board: treasurer and education chair and she is still the education chair for this year.
As education chair, she was responsible for leading the club in the teacher appreciation barbecue that is held every year, feeding approximately 350 school employees and family members. She has also been responsible for leading the club's scholarship committee, which administers scholarships to Payson's high school seniors and grants to Payson's teachers.
Another example of Celeste's contributions to the community is in her full time position as a radiation therapist for Valley Radiation and Oncology at the Payson Regional Medical Center. Her ready smile, strong organizational skills and willingness to serve are greatly appreciated by the club.
