The mosquitoes are dividing and conquering with great determination. This wet weather suits them well.
They are pesky, but do not seem to bite like the no-see-ems. With the rain comes a green I have not seen around here for a long time.

Pine Library Friends will meet at 1 p.m., Monday, Aug. 27, in the Library Activity Building. Laura Watson of Mesa will be the guest speaker.
Ms. Watson has been very active in the League of Women Voters in Wyoming, Kansas, California and Arizona. She has lobbied for a number of issues, worked for several candidates and now is focusing on international election monitoring. Through the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, she was sent to monitor elections in the Republic of Georgia, the former Yugoslav, Republic of Macedonia and Albania, countries striving to become democracies.
Laura has an interesting story to tell and she is a most entertaining speaker. Don't miss this program.

Arizona in the Depression
The Pine Museum has wonderful historic photographs in the new display, "Arizona in the Great Depression."
One photo shows the Coca-Cola plant in Pine in 1930. According to my source, "the plant employed most of the town of Pine and its closing drove Pine even deeper into the financial doldrums."
The museum, located in the Pine Community Center, is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
If you have not visited lately, do it soon. And while you are there, fill out your application for membership in the Historical Society. This organization keeps the museum open.
New park in Strawberry
As you drive through Strawberry, take note of the new park just to the east of the bridge.
This is a Take Pride Project. Do take a look. This will be a great place to enjoy a picnic lunch. It had been full of brush, fallen trees, debris and garbage. Lots of work went into this transformation.
The Art and Crafts Fair will be Labor Day weekend, Sept. 1 and 2 at the Pine Community Center.
