Nine-Hole And 18-Hole Play Heating Up


Members of both the nine-hole and 18-hole groups of the Payson Women's Golf Association are heating up Payson Golf Course links.

In 18-hole action, golfers locked horns Aug. 14 in a two-partner best ball tournament won by Joyce Goff and Marilyn Schaal. In winning the gold, the pair finished with a net card of 60. With a 62, Laura Meyocks and Glenda Cook were second. The team of Isabella Sockrider and Alesha Calderwood tied with Joyce Karnes and Kay Davis for third. Both finished with identical scores of 63.

Sockrider also pocketed closest-to-the-pin prize money on No. 14, where her tee shot rolled to within 12 feet, 4 inches of the flag.

In nine-hole group action, the Lady Niners gathered Aug. 6 to honor July tournament winners.

In a July 25 fray, Kelly O'Neill was lauded for her tournament win. Cookie Uburtis and Sockrider tied for third.

During a July 19th tournament, Carola Cort and Ann Adams dead knotted for first. Anita Dekowski was second and Florence Moeur third.

Moeur also finished third in a July 12 tournament won by Mary Quigley. Dekowski was second.

In a month-opening fray held July 5, Dekowski kicked off play with a gold medal showing. Carol Webb was second and Ellarea Davison third.

Also at the awards ceremony, Dekowski and Webb were honored for carding birdies during the month.

Chip-in winners were Cece McCain, Jackie LaSeuer, Dekowski and Sockrider.
