Allan D. Hennings, age 79, died Aug. 14, 2007 at the RTA Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Payson, Ariz.
Allan served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper from 1946 to 1949.
He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier in West Allis, Wis. until his retirement in 1983.
He and his wife then moved to Crivitz, Wis. where they built their own home on 20 acres of wooded land near the Peshtigo River. In 1994, they moved to Payson.
Mr. Hennings joined the Payson Packers and became an avid hiker and hike leader. He continued hiking until becoming ill this past spring.
He is survived by his wife Audrey, children, Pamela (Robert) Zadak, Allan (Natasha) Hennings, Lynn (John) Shoemaker, and Jon (Kimma) Malone, grandchildren, Frank, Alex and Wally and four step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Mount Cross Lutheran Church, 601 East Highway 260 in Payson, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 25. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
