Payson Center for Success High School teacher Linda Gibson was given the Rotary Club's annual teacher of the year honor during a barbecue last week.
Every year the Payson Rotary Club sponsors a barbecue for local teachers and school staff to show appreciation to these wonderful people who give so much to our kids and our community.
This year the Payson Rotary Club honored Linda Gibson with the Teacher of the Year Award and a check for $500.
She is a gifted communicator and certified counselor, as well as a teacher, Rotary Club officials said.
She gives freely of her time to listen to and mentor students and help them find ways to give back to the community through service.
The Rotary Club's motto is "Service Above Self" and the club felt she fit the bill perfectly for this award.
Also, the Payson Rotary Club gave out six grants, so teachers could purchase needed tools for their classrooms.
This year's grant winners were: Donna Goble, Rim Country Middle School; Richard Ormand, Frontier Elementary School; Eileen Lawson, Frontier Elementary School; Kelly McLane-Grim, Rim Country Middle School; Juli Davies, Payson Elementary School; and Wanda Utz, Rim Country Middle School.
The Rotary Club would like to thank Dan Dillon at Safeway for once again donating the food, Meg Turlukis, CPA, for cooking the beans, Pioneer Title for the water, Pepsi for the beverages, and Jack Koon for the barbecue grill and helping out with the cooking.
The Rotary board would also like to thank all our Rotarians for another wonderful event that would not happen if it weren't for Rotarians giving of their own time and money.
