Don't miss out on the chance to make your pet a star in our upcoming Payson Humane Society pet calendar. For $20 per photo, you can pick a day (first come, first served) for your pet to be featured. Forms are available at the shelter or on the Web site www.paysonhumanesociety.com.
If you don't have a good picture of your pet, there will be a photo shoot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Off-Leash Dog Park, next to the library. The photos are free for animals that will be part of the calendar.
In addition to the photo shoot on Saturday, the Payson Humane Society will hold a pet adoption event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the dog park. There, you will get to meet several of the wonderful dogs available for adoption from the Humane Society. We are still offering special adoption prices, so come on down and meet your new best friend.
A micro-chip identification service will also be offered at the dog park from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at a cost of $40 per animal. If you can't make it then, the service is also available at the shelter, 812 S. McLane Road. It's money well-spent to ensure the safe return of your beloved friend. Call 474-5590 for further information.
Donations needed for pet food
The Payson Humane Society needs dog and cat food. We would appreciate donations of gift cards and certificates for food purchases from the many area stores which sell cat and dog food. Gift cards and certificates allow us to buy the food as needed, which is best, since we have limited storage space and the warm, humid weather encourages spoilage of the food.
We are pleased to announce that we have received another offer from an anonymous donor for matching funds for our building project. This donor will match donations received from the public, up to $10,000. The requirements are that each donation must be at least $100. The donations must be specified to go to the Building Fund.
Now, meet a few of the great pets currently available for adoption at the Payson Humane Society.
April is a 2-year-old spayed female Heeler/Shepherd mix. Her coat is tan in color and will require brushing to keep her looking good.
During a busy time at the shelter, our staff was outside tending to animals. When we came back inside, we found April was sitting by the door shaking and crying.
She is very friendly and loves people and other dogs.
April is a medium-sized girl who is fully grown and weighs 32 pounds. She has one brown eye and one blue eye, and when she looks at you, her eyes seem to twinkle because of the color difference.
She walks well on a leash and has demonstrated a calm disposition.
April does like to greet people who come to see her while she is in her kennel. Once she is out with you, she calms down and is very quiet and pays attention to her human friends.
Come take a look at her at our shelter. April participated in our annual Rodeo parade and was quite the star.
Herbie is a 5-year-old neutered male Hound mix.
He is a good-looking guy with a soft temperament. He gets along with other dogs and loves to play.
Herbie is a typical hound; he loves to work his nose.
He came to our shelter as a stray many times before his family decided to leave him with us because he would not stay home. Herbie is very independent; he can jump a 6-foot fence and just keep moving for hours using his nose to guide him to newfound treasures.
Herbie needs an owner who understands hounds and their needs for hunting. A ranch environment with some wide open spaces would be best for Herbie.
With his awesome sense of smell, he would make a marvelous hunting companion for the right person.
Great pet, so come and see him at our shelter.
Scarlett is a 2-year-old spayed female Heeler mix. Her owner brought her to our shelter with a litter of eight puppies.
She was a great mom! Her puppies are healthy and fun-loving. Now it's her turn to get a good home and a family who loves her.
She is a little shy when you first meet her, but one look into her beautiful, soft eyes tells you she would make a great, loyal companion.
She rides well in the car, but is used to being an outside dog. She is loving and gentle and ready to move on in her life.
Scarlett is up-to-date on all her shots, and was spayed after her pups were weaned.
She gets along well with other dogs and would love a family like yours to give her a safe home. Please come and take a look at her at our shelter.
Cruiser is a 1-year-old neutered male Poodle mix. He came into our shelter as a stray.
He is very shy and quite scared. We think Cruiser has been on the run for a while.
His beautiful, white coat had a lot of burrs and was quite dirty.
Cruiser will need an owner who has patience and will work with him so he can trust humans again. We don't recommend a home with small children since he is so shy.
We encourage you to bring in your other dogs and let Cruiser meet them at the shelter before adopting him.
Velvet is a 2-year-old spayed female cat who is in search of good, old-fashioned TLC.
She has a long, beautiful smoky gray coat that needs to be brushed often.
It doesn't take much to keep this kitty happy. Velvet gets along great with other cats and uses the litter box with no problems.
She needs someone to play with her and pet her daily. She is the type of cat who will love afternoon snoozes on a warm window sill in your home.
Please help Velvet by giving her a good home, and in return you will receive unconditional love.
