Mother Nature has turned up the thermostat!
The Phoenix weather reports have stated that Wednesday, Aug. 22 will tie a record of 28 days of 110 degree temperatures for this summer.
That means that our part of the Rim Country will also feel the effects of the heat with our temperatures in the 90's.
It is hard to keep up with the supply of ice cubes needed to cool down. I hope that everyone takes it easy during this unusually hot weather.
Tonto Village Fire District
The regular monthly meeting of the Tonto Village Fire Board was held this past Wednesday.
Board Chairman Rick Washburn announced that the strategic planning session that was scheduled for September 15 has been changed to Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Diamond Star Fire Station beginning at 6 p.m.
The session will work out planning for a three- to five-year plan for the Tonto Village and Diamond Star Fire Districts.
The meeting will be open to the public to anyone who is interested in the progress of both districts.
Fire training schedules for the month of September will begin on September 5 at 6 p.m. at the fire station in Tonto Village. A list will be made at that time for the rest of the month. Firefighters, be sure to mark your calendar.
Labor Day barbecue
The fire board addressed the volunteer help that will be needed for the Labor Day Bash on Sept. 1.
There will be eight volunteer firefighters from Fire stations 61 and 62 going to the Gila County Community College for firefighter I and II classes that day.
Linda Stailey, president of the Auxiliary, told the board that more help is desperately needed.
The auxiliary is to meet at Linda's home at 9 a.m. to pick up the roasters and meat, and then again at 5 p.m. at the Tonto Village Chapel to set up the tables and move the pews.
Help will also be needed to help break everything down after 3 p.m. on the day of the barbecue.
If there are people within our fire district who would like to help out in any way, please contact Linda at 928-478-4641. Any kind of assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Linda Digman of Tonto Village I will be adding another candle to her birthday cake on August 29.
Linda's daughter Trina will follow her mother with her big day on August 30.
Jan Davenport of Tonto Village III will celebrate her birthday on August 31.
Happy birthday to all of you. You are having another birthday, which means another year of memories, enjoy!
The Christopher Creek gals dominated the tables this past Tuesday evening at the Double D when they played nine-ball. Nanci Olson and Patty Boeschling took first and third places. Betty Koutz of Tonto Village I took second place.
"Scotty," one of our local artists, has sketched a drawing of the Double D gals playing pool.
There will be a roll-off of all winners for September and then there will be a drawing for the winner of the sketch.
Get that practice in, gals, for a good chance to win that drawing.
Sunday afternoon was the time for the eight-ball players to take over the tables.
A newcomer to the winner's circle, Brian Meade, of Mead and Collins Ranch area, shot the best to take first place.
Cliff Landrum, with a wrapped sliced finger, no less, shot for second place.
Harvey Poyner came in third place. Harvey did not have much time to practice, he has been a traveling man this past month. Harvey got to visit some of his family in Chicago and Texas. We are glad to have you back in the village, Harvey.
