Larry W. Alley, born Aug. 25, 1938, in Omaha, Neb., died Aug. 24, 2007.
At a very young age, he joined the volunteer fire department in Ashland, Neb. and continued his volunteering after moving to Arizona.
Mr. Alley came to Arizona in 1977, and went to work for the State of Arizona. After retiring for a short time, he worked at Superstition Mall. He was a 4-H leader for more than 19 years. Some of his happiest times were out on the trail, riding, camping and enjoying a tall tale.
He moved to Pine in 1981 and worked at Phil White Chevrolet (now Chapman's) and served as a volunteer with the Pine Strawberry Fire Department.
He was a strong supporter of Camp Not A Wheeze, National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver, the children at the Kunsberg School. He was a CASA for Pinal County.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of Apache Junction, Ariz., sons Terry of Springfield, Mo., Michael (Raelyn) of Mesa, Ariz. and daughter Pamela (Daniel) of Payson, Ariz.; three grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are two sisters, Sharon (Wayne) Raasch of Champion, Neb., and Linda (Ron) Bailey of Cheyenne, Wyo.
Preceding him in death are his parents Harold and Ruth Alley and stepfather Fred Leno.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 30 at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E. Main, Mesa, Ariz.
