Younger classmen had the opportunity to showcase their skills in the Longhorn soccer team's 10-1 win over Monument Valley.
In the clash played Aug. 29 at Rumsey Park, coach Chad Gower submitted freely, after the Longhorns built a 5-0 halftime lead.
Which meant, freshmen and sophomores saw plenty of playing time.
Nic Creighton pulled off a hat trick in the blowout scoring three goals, Caleb Harrison tallied two and Trey Dunman had one.
Coach Chad Gower also cited goalie Anthony Pearce for his heady play that held MV to a single goal, which was scored late in the game.
Captains Chad Lammers and Steve Hilgendorf were lauded by the coach for their leadership.
"Shane (Crisp) and Gabriel (Batista) played well, too," Gower said. "I was pleased with all of the team, they came out charging the ball."
With a 2-0 record, the Longhorns will travel Sept. 5 to Show Low, where they'll take on a Cougar team expected to contend for the region title.
Game times are 2 (jayvee) and 4 p.m. (varsity).
The Horns return to Show Low Sept. 7 -8 for the Show Low Invitational.
"This is where the tough part of our schedule begins," Gower said.
