Rudolph Gets Jazzed On Sunday

Pete Pancrazi will give the little red-nosed reindeer jazz stylings when he performs at what has become the annual "Jazzy Holiday" Jazz in Az concert, Dec. 9.

"Pete has been coming to Payson for about five years. He is entertaining and folks up here like him," said Jazz in Az coordinator and drummer in his own right, Gerry Reynolds.

Pete Pancrazi's "Jazzy Holiday" Celebration is at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 9 at the Community Presbyterian Church.

"Pete does a super job because he mixes in Christmas songs with the jazz and he invents lyrics on some of the Christmas songs. It is a fun time for everyone," jazz aficionado, Bing Brown said.

Pancrazi is a vocalist and a guitar player.

As a solo performer Pancrazi won the Boston ASCAP Songwriter's Award, Downbeat Magazine named Pancrazi "one to watch", and AzJazz Magazine named him "Jazz Guitar Player of the Year" from their reader's poll.

Saxophonist Steven Von Wald will join Pancrazi onstage Sunday afternoon, along with Vic Kottner on bass, and local Gerry Reynolds on drums.

"Mix in several other talented musicians, include some wonderful holiday tunes, thenadd the spice of jazz, and the result will be a holiday feast to fill the heart and soul," Reynolds said.

The event is sponsored by the Payson Friends of Jazz and the church. There is a $5 donation at the door.
