Heavy rains mixed with forecasted snow has Payson and surrounding communities under a flash flood watch until Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service announced the flash flood watch for northern Gila County, including, Payson, Star Valley, Pine and Strawberry, along with Yavapai County mountains, Yavapai County valleys, Oak Creek and Sycamore Canyons, at 6:18 Monday morning.
The report said heavy rains in the last seven days has left the ground saturated and unable to soak up much new precipitation.
Up to 2 inches of rain and/or snow are expected by Tuesday morning according to the National Weather Service.
They said many rivers and streams in the area are already running above normal and the additional rain and snow could force them to overflow and cause flooding.
The National Weather Service advises local residents living along rivers, creeks and other flood prone areas, to listen closely to weather forecasts.
They said most of the precipitation expected from Monday's and Tuesday's rain and snow will run directly into rivers and streams, and residents should be prepared to take immediate action should flash flood warnings be issued.
