John E. Kovacs, 83, of Payson Ariz., died Dec. 9, 2007.
He is survived by his wife Margaret, of Payson, a daughter Suzanne (Gil) of Minnesota, a son Jeff (Rebecca) of California, a sister Mary Mugavero of Connecticut, two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Mr. Kovacs was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II. It was on a furlough during the war that he met Margaret, the love of his life, and they were married in 1947 in Norwalk, Conn. During his career, he worked as both a teacher and postal employee. He retired and moved to Arizona in 1984, settling first in Prescott, and later, Payson.
In his middle years, Mr. Kovacs was very active in the Catholic War Veterans where he served as post commander for his Norwalk, Conn. chapter; additionally, he had served as a Grand Marshal for Norwalk's Memorial Day Parade. He was also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled War Veterans.
