The Payson Area Trails System (PATS) volunteers, Payson Town Staff and USFS Personnel had another productive trails workday continuing to sign the Houston Loop Trail on Wednesday, Dec. 5.

The groups signed and improved more than two miles of the Houston Loop trail and are almost done signing the entire stretch of eight miles as part of PATS.

Steve Zimmerman and David Cederbaum work on installing a sign along the trail.

Volunteers made a huge headway on incorporating and improving USFS trails into PATS during the past five months.

"We look forward to completing the entire signage of existing USFS trails by Spring 2008," said Mary McMullen, town coordinator.

Town staff members are also moving forward on planned PATS routes in Payson, including Tyler Parkway trail construction scheduled to begin in Spring 2008.

The PATS website is under construction, but certain components are available for view -- www.ci.payson.az.us/pats.html. Users will be able to download specific USFS trail information and access PATS updates, sponsorship information, etc.

Volunteers for the day were: Ted Lucas, David Cederbaum, Steve Zimmerman, Ron Keller, Robbie Wertin, John Wertin, Dusty Miller, Hal Baas, Joe Longbotham and Gene Sampson.

USFS personnel present were Walt Thole and Jeff Leonard, and Town Staff present was Mary McMullen.
