The March primary election ballots have been whittled of several council candidates, after Wednesday's petition deadline.

Candidates on the primary ballot for the Town of Payson are Mayor Bob Edwards and Kenny Evans, who are seeking the mayor's seat.

Council candidates include Rick Croy, Michael Hughes, Tom Loeffler, David Rutter and incumbent John Wilson. There are three town council seats open.

The Star Valley election also saw a decrease in candidates.

Mayor Chuck Heron and Vice Mayor Randy White are still in the running for mayor, but only four council candidates remain.

George Binney, Gary Coon, Barbara Hartwell and Nathalie Stroup are running for the three available council seats.

The primary election for both towns will be held Tuesday, March 11, in which voters will select one mayoral candidate and three council candidates. To be elected outright, a council candidate must receive 50 percent plus one vote of all votes cast. If candidates do not get the needed number of votes, a runoff election will be necessary during the May 20 general election.
