Columnist Nestles In For The Holiday

Lights were flashing and the sirens were blaring as Santa arrived at the fire station Saturday afternoon. The children were all thrilled to see Santa.

One by one they got to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas.

Everyone believes in Santa, from Chuck and Karen Schmit's 4-year-old granddaughter Katie Anthony to the older, but much wiser, Mimi Tidwell.

Each child got a stocking full of fun things, they decorated food boxes and ate some delicious cookies along with some hot chocolate. Thanks to the Christopher Creek Homeowner's Association for sponsoring this event, and to Rod Britain, who wears the suit every year.

The Night Before Christmas

by Mikey Marazza

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through our house, not a creature was stirring not even a mouse, except for the chipmunk who has lived in the attic for about seven years now.

Frankie and Buddy's stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

My husband's asleep in his favorite chair, snoring so loud as if anyone would care.

My daughter's all nestled and snug in her bed, while visions of sugar-plums dance in her head.

Buddy the dog was asleep on the loveseat, but if you turned and looked, one eye would open, hoping for a treat.

As I sit on the couch, I wonder if my job is all done? Oh, not to worry, this is so much fun.

I think I'll have a sip of milk and a nibble of the cookie on the shelf, and are all the gifts under the tree? What about the small ones for the stockings? Oh, where can they be? Every year, I find something I put away from the year before. Could it be my vision is poor? Or maybe my mind doesn't remember what they were for.

It's almost midnight, so I must hurry. I put on my PJs and I jump into bed.

I open The Book to Luke 2:9-11 and read, "and behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the Glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.'"

Happy Birthday, Jesus.

Wishing each and every one of you a very blessed and Merry Christmas.
