Celebration Brings 300 Pounds To Food Bank

RTA Hospice, Messinger Funeral Home and Rim Country Hospice Foundation have held "A Celebration of Life" for the past 12 years.

This year, the event was Dec. 6 at the sanctuary of the Mountain Bible Church. Those attending were asked to bring a can of food for the St. Vincent de Paul Rim Country Food Bank.

More than 160 people were in attendance and, as a result, approximately 300 pounds of canned goods were contributed to the food bank.

Most of those attending have lost a loved one during the past year.

This annual gathering is intended to remember a loved one or to honor someone who has touched our life. To do this, those participating were able to purchase personalized rose ornaments in a keepsake box.

There was no charge for the evening, which included music and dinner.

"This tradition was started in Payson by RTA Hospice 12 years ago as a small gathering of people. It has grown throughout the years with the addition of Messinger Funeral Home and Rim Country Hospice Foundation's participation," stated Kathleen Hughes, community liaison for RTA Hospice.
