Keeping The Christmas Spirit Year-Round

We can all keep the spirit of Christmas alive and well throughout the year. Sharing good wishes for all we meet and even those we don't know, but are in need; expressing love for our family, friends and neighbors through kindness and small, thoughtful, unexpected gifts of appreciation and gratitude.

We can make the spirit of Christmas reach out into our community and make it a better place. There is a deadline though -- at least in a few cases.

Give the gift of funds to help the Payson Area Habitat for Humanity, any school in the Rim Country and other organizations that qualify for the tax credit program offered by the state. The deadline for making these contributions is Dec. 31. Singles can donate up to $200 and couples may make a contribution of $400 and receive a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the state income taxes owed.

Giving to PAHH is giving the gift of dignity and helps change lives -- materially and spiritually -- by providing housing and a renewed sense of hope to Rim Country families in need. This gift can be made in addition to contributions to area schools for tax credit purposes.

Mail your gift to PAHH, P.O. Box 1131, Payson, AZ 85547. The tax identification number for PAHH is 86-0818407.

Contributions made to area schools are used to fund extracurricular programs, supplement fine arts education and, in the case of the Payson Unified School District, support Longhorn Stadium.

To donate to PUSD, mail to P.O. Box 919, Payson, AZ 85547; or drop off at the PUSD office, the APS box at Payson Town Hall or the APS office, 400 W. Longhorn Road.

One group that does not have a deadline for gifts is the Rim Country Food Bank. Contributions of nonperishable food and funds to purchase perishable items can be made throughout the year. The service provided by the food bank is needed all year.

So, on this Christmas day, make a holiday resolution to keep the spirit of the season throughout the year.

Merry Christmas.
